The consensus seems to be that there're no
theoretical obstacles for fsync(2) to work on a
correct implementation of the NFS protocols as
understood here.  That pretty much answers my
question, for which I am grateful.  The timing I
see on my Linux system tells me something is
wrong.  I'm still trying to see, what...
