: We need to decide once and for all:
:
: Should we use the 'mail' attribute for routing or leave it as a whitepages
entry?

As opposed to what?

I think it's very clear that a whitepages-style lookup of "John Smith" in a
compose window is likely to result in the mail attribute being returned:
jsmith@example.com.

Our spec requires that, once the message gets into example.com's name space,
it's appropriate for an example.com MTA to lookup mailLocalAddress of
jsmith@example.com and return the mailRoutingAddress of john@mailbox.example.com
(or possibly john@recently.acquired.com or john@example.outsourcer.com.) I
trust this is what we all mean by routing.

So what are we debating? Whether "mail" is one of the "mailLocalAddress", as
required in 4.2?

If John Smith maps to jsmith@example.com and jsmith@example.com routes to
john@mailbox.example.com, how can we guarantee that mail to John Smith will
actually reach his mailbox if we don't ensure this linkage?
